DIY: A gift that will brighten ANYONE'S day!

This is an affordable, easy, and fun gift that could be for anyone! I made these for my teachers, and gave them out on the last day of school. Want to know how to make them? Look below:

What you'll need:
-Fresh flowers….any kind! I got a mixture of sunflowers and carnations from Sprouts!
-Jars….I got "milk" jars from Michaels, but you can find them at other craft stores!
-Burlap
-Lace Ribbon
-Twine
-Small cards

Step 1: Cut the burlap into strips, a little longer than the length of the circumference of the jar.
Step 2: Hot glue the lace ribbon onto the burlap strips, the same length.
Step 3: Hot glue the burlap around the jar, overlapping it a bit in the back.
Step 4: Write a cute message on the card, and attach with twine around the neck of the bottle.
Step 5: Cut the flowers to your preferred length, and add water!

Voila! The perfect gift for a teacher, mother, friend, significant other, or someone who isn't feeling well. :)

Most recent project….Cardigans!

It only took me an hour to make this cardigan. At my school, you have to have your shoulders covered at all times, and I wanted to make something light and comfy that I could wear over my cute tank tops, that is in dress code! I will definitely be making these in all sorts of colors, because I got a few compliments at the airport on my way to New Hampshire! :)

Overalls….The new trend!

OVERALLS.
Personally, I think they are adorable. I am uber-obsessed with the "grunge" trend that is going on right now, and overalls is a big part of this trend. Grunge became popular in the 90's, and that is when overalls were most popular…if you didn't have a pair, you were SO not with the system. So if you missed this trend in the 90's, you're in great luck because they are coming back into style now, with a new look; they're short! So go out to Forever 21, H&M, Urban Outfitters, and other stores to get a pair of adorable summer overalls! :)

DIY Jewelry Holder

Looking for a convenient way to hang your jewelry so that it:
-Doesn't get tangled?
-Looks cute?
-Stays organized?

Well then I have the perfect DIY (Do It Yourself) for you.

What You'll Need:

For the Necklace holder:
-Shelf (got mine at Goodwill for $3.99!)
-Spray paint (If you don't like the color of the original shelf)
-Little hooks

For the Earring holder:
-Burlap (regular or metal)
-Picture frame

Necklace Holder:
First, spray paint the shelf if you don't like the color it is. Next, all you need to do is add tiny hooks (however many you want) to the underneath, or if you want you could put them sticking out from the side, and voila! It is that simple! Hang your shelf up and start adding your jewlery to it!

Earring Holder:
This one is just as easy. Cut a piece of burlap just a tad bit bigger than the frame back. Hot glue it in and you are all set! Hang your earrings on it, and you can either hang the frame on the wall, or you can lean it against the wall right on top of your necklace holder like I did! :)

Dryer Sheet Dress

This week, I competed against more than 20 people at the FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) Texas State Leadership Conference in the Recycle and Redesign category. I had to turn something old into something new, so I decided to make a dress out of dryer sheets and the inside of a cat food bag for the top. It took me a total of 62 hours to make the dress, using a total of 582 dryer sheets. The dress only costed a total of $4.19 though!

All of my hard work definitely paid off and I got 1st place, therefore moving me on to nationals! I also received a scholarship to FIDM (my dream school)!

Nationals will be July 6-11, so keep an eye out because I'll be posting an update on how I did! :)

I even made a matching purse! More pictures of the dress are on my Instagram: @felicia_murray

Mexico

Destination: MEXICO!

A little late, and haven't been blogging lately, but going to Mexico for spring break was such an experience. My family and I stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya, Mexico. It is a new resort, and is all inclusive…..yes, drinks, food, and activities all included 24/7 during your stay. (We did take advantage of the 24-hour room service for our midnight cravings :)

The beach was nice. It wasn't exactly a beach with huge waves coming onto the shore, which made it nice (I don't like water splashing up in my face). It has a rock barrier way far out, so the waves stop there. The water was crystal clear and a pretty blue as you can see from the pictures below, which have not been edited.

We took a couple of excursions during our trip; We went on a snorkeling adventure and got to see a giant sea turtle and 2 sting rays. This included a speedboat ride going over all of the huge waves, which in my opinion, was a tad bit scary, haha. We also got to shop around in Playa Del Carmen, which was good so that we could get all of our family and friends souvenirs. There was a huge selection of things for really great prices. (It's easy to bargain). My favorite excursion was going swimming in the cenotas, which are caves in these blue lagoons that you can swim under. We went to 3 cenotas, and for every one, we had to jump off of a cliff into the water to get in! Scary but so much fun! This trip also included going on two different zip lines over the giant lagoon and canoeing your way back. When you got back to shore, you got to relax in hammocks, and be served a traditional meal cooked by the village members and cenota owners. :)

All in all the trip was fantastic. I met so many people there that I still keep in contact with now, and the weather was perfect. The environment was rockin' and all of the events were awesome! :)

Yes, the water WAS this blue. This picture has NOT been edited :)

The New Trend- Sunflowers

I absolutely love this trend! I've been seeing sunflowers and daisies in stores such as Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, and PacSun. I see them on shirts, dresses, and even on those fancy head wraps! I love the spring feel it gives off. It was such a beautiful day here in Texas that I had to take advantage of the weather.

"Hemlock" green nails, one of the Spring 2014 colors this season!

My apricot colored shorts suited my sunflower crop top nicely.
